John Dickson and Son Round-Action made in 1927
12 Gauge, patent triggerplate action, Dickson patent single-trigger, side-by-side shotgun
This is quite a special Round-Action for us to have in for sale, delivered in October 1927 as a lightweight (only 5lb 13oz) with 28in steel barrels and a Dickson patent single-trigger. Marked with Patent Use Number 1658, its the 1658th patent-gun made in the Round-Actions 140 year history.
The action has fine bouquet and scroll engraving and is fitted with a long replacement well-figured stock but we have the original short stock that was supplied with the gun. The barrels have been overhauled including a re-joint and having the ribs re-laid and barrels re-blacked. The single-trigger works as it should having been tested thoroughly.
What is so unusual about this particular Round-Action is that, when the action bar is precisely measured, it is a fraction smaller in width than a standard 12 gauge gun. This was done to achieve the characteristics of true lightweight Round-Action gun. The gun also has a swept toplever thumbpiece, at the request of the original customer, who had the same fitted to another gun they ordered in 1938.
The original owner has an interesting and important industrial heritage and connection to East Lothian, south-east of Edinburgh and the family had ordered a number of guns from Dicksons in the 1920's.
