New Inventory - John Dickson & Son Round Action, made 1893
12 Gauge, patent triggerplate action, side-by-side shotgun
This is an early action gun, so has the shallow and rimmed detonators, and cocking indicators and marked with Patent Use Number 456, its the 456th patent Round-Action gun made since 1880. The engraving is quite worn and in the period style tight Sumner scroll with John Dickson & Son Patent in banners on the action sides. The gun benefits from a long well-figured replacement stock, which was fitted at great expense. A very unusual aspect of this gun is that the fore-end has been shortened and fitted with a Deeley latch to secure it, replacing the Anson push-rod. The gun was delivered with 29in damascus barrels that have been sleeved to 27in.
To prepare the gun for sale it has had a full service and clean - the lockwork is in superb condition inside. All the engraving on the pins, safety and furniture has been recut. The stock and fore-end has been cleaned and re-finished, and all the chequering has been cleaned out. The barrels have had their ribs stripped and relaid, all engraving recut and then re-blacked.
Provenance
This single gun was delivered just before the Glorious Twelfth in 1893 to a Scottish soldier and officer of arms in the Court of the Lord Lyon for his coming-of-age 21st birthday, a gift from his father.
