12 Gauge, 2in chamber, A & D Ejector Shotgun

John Graham was born in 1822 in Aberdeen, serving his time with an unknown Aberdeen gunmaker and then establishing his business in Inverness in 1857. The business was first recorded only in about 1883 when it was located at 27 Union Street. In about 1890 the firm changed its name to John Graham & Co. and it appears John had retired, with his son Edward taking over the business.

Around 1927 the firm became the limited company of J Graham & Co Ltd, In 1981 the limited company was closed and the firm traded as John Graham & Co. from 73 Castle Street. In 1991 the firm moved to 37 & 39 Castle Street where they trade as "Grahams of Inverness" to this day.

We are very pleased to offer this very pretty vintage boxlock ejector by the Scottish gunmaker J. Graham & Co. of Inverness. It is a lightweight 12 gauge 2in chambered gun built on a 16 gauge action.

The barrels measure as new, on their original proof sizes, the bores are unmarked and bright and unmarked on the outside with no signs of any previous damage or repair and still reading FULL choke in both barrels. 2" ONLY is inlaid in silver into the barrels to remind you of the chamber size. All engraving and pins are crisp and the action has a nice patina with traces of colour. The gun has a well figured stock and finished with a horn heelplate. The gun comes in its makers case.

The gun benefits from having just had a full service, strip and deep clean and the wood has been gently re-freshened. The barrels have been re-blacked and re-jointed to the action. Like many other Scottish boxlocks, this gun was made in the trade by Holloway and Son in Birmingham in 1935, confirmed by the presence of a Holloway 'H' serial number for 1935 and Birmingham proof stamp for the year 1935.

The barrel length and chokes on this gun almost certainly mean it was meant for the grouse in the highlands.
