Extended Christmas and New Year Closure for 2020

The past year has been very challenging for everyone and for this year we have decided to take an extended break during the festive season. This means we will be closed from Wednesday 23rd December through to Tuesday 5th January 2021.

From all of us here at John Dickson and Son, our warmest thoughts and best wishes to you for a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year. We thank you for the much appreciated support and continued custom whilst we navigate these testing times and if we can assist with anything whilst we are closed, you can contact us here.

Fine Scottish Gunmaking

After a disruptive year, the gun making team continues to push ahead with all orders for new guns as well as the development of some of our other projects. We look forward to sharing some of these developments in the Spring of 2021, in particular, the exciting return of Daniel Fraser as one of the best Scottish rifle makers.

Vintage Gun Inventory Update

Our vintage gun inventory page is updated regularly, which you can view here.

Two particular guns of interest this month are an early Round-Action from 1896 which is priced to get you into Round-Action ownership and a very clean vintage D. B. Crockart boxlock from 1937, which is in superb condition.

In the Workshop

We have a great selection of fine Scottish boxlock ejector guns going through the workshop in preparation for sale from the likes of J. Dickson and Son, J. MacNaughton & Sons, Alex Martin, J. R. Gow of Dundee, P. D. Malloch of Perth and a rare and interesting J. D. Dougall of Glasgow with pretty 30in damascus barrels, Nitro Proof with 70mm chambers. We also have two interesting boxlock non-ejector guns coming through from McCririck & Son of Ayr and McColl & Fraser of Dunfermline. Both guns making ideal lightweight walked-up game guns where quick cartridge ejection is not required.

We are currently preparing for sale a fabulous matched pair of damascus barrelled Round-Action guns made in 1896/8. Pairs of guns like this are becoming more and more difficult to locate and this pair also comes with an interesting story, past and present.

Pre-owned Daniel Fraser rifles have been very difficult to source but we finally have two bolt-action rifles going through a sympathetic clean. A vintage Mauser action rifle in 7 x 57mm made in 1903 and a more recent Mannlicher-Schoenauer action .275 made in 1995. If you are interested in any of the above, please get in touch with us here

COVID-19 Update

Since out last communication to you, the county of Perthshire, where our business resides, has had its COVID Tier level raised to Level 3. This has increased the difficulties of trading for the local economy and restricted the movement of people between counties. We continue to work within the latest guidance issued by the Scottish Government to ensure both our staff and customers are as safe as possible whilst on our premises.

May we please remind you that:

You must call ahead if there is something specific you require, especially when purchasing ammunition.

There will be no public access to the workshop. We will only be available to meet with customers through the main shop.

If you are invited into the shop, it is strictly one customer at a time and we will be observing a 2-metre social distancing rule with the customer at all times. All staff will have hand sanitiser, wipes and masks to hand.

Please bring a mask as it is mandatory to wear it - if you forget it, we will happily provide one.
