'Holy Grail' 16 Gauge Dickson Sidelever Hammer Gun

Vintage Gunners Cup 2023

We are very pleased to be heading to 'Vintagers' next month for a celebration of the 25th Vintage Gunners World Side-by-Side shotgun Championship and Exhibition.

Hosted by our friends Delaney & Sons, this will be a great gathering of side by side vintage shotgun enthusiasts, and as Dickson's is a sponsor of this event, we will be in attendance with a fine selection of Scottish vintage guns and Dickson accessories for sale.

Dickson's Managing Director, J-P Daeschler, will be in attendance and happy to discuss all things Dickson, MacNaughton, Fraser, Henry, Martin & Mortimer.

A Dickson Owners Club USA gathering will take place on the Friday, a separate invite will go out for that event to members.

We hope to see you in Pennsylvania, it will be a great event and not to be missed!

'Holy Grail' 16 Gauge Dickson Sidelever Hammer Gun

We are just completing the renovation of a rare and unique Dickson hammer gun. This gun is the first of only six 16 gauge sidelever hammer guns, and the only single gun (the other five are a pair and a trio), built by Dickson between 1876 and 1883.

This gun was delivered in January 1876, built on a Hodges Patent Action and originally with 30in damascus barrels and a lengthy 16 1/2in stock. We have now sleeved the gun, completed the mandatory re-proof and it also benefits from new 2 3/4in chambers.

The gun was was made for William John Pawson, the High Sheriff of Northumberland, a landed proprietor of Shawdon Hall, near Alnwick in Northumberland. He obviously liked his sidelever guns as he took delivery of a pair of sidelever 20 bore Dickson Round-Actions in 1884.
